When we built the new barn, I looked at feeders at our local tack store. It was a nightmare. The corner feeders would snap with a single “butt rub”, the hook over feeders get flung off the wall (Thank you Twister), the rubber pan feeders are TERRIBLE to clean (especially in the Ohio winters when we feed mash every meal.) My husband finally threw a 3 pack of hook over hideous neon green feeders in the cart and we moved on.
When I received our Swede Feed box – I honestly thought they sent me the wrong thing. The box was HEAVY. I opened it up and I was impressed at first look! These feeders are made of smooth PVC surface, with a DRAIN HOLE for cleaning. This means no soaking up nasty spit and feed residue with multiple towels.
They included screws for mounting, and can be mounted in the corner or flat on the wall. I mounted ours flat, and it was VERY easy. The PVC is marked with where to place the screws for the best hold, and these feeders were SOLID. I had Ellie sit in one to test it (she is 60 pounds) and it didn’t budge. I have also witnessed many butt scratches and attempted “food flinging” and these feeders are built like a tank. The walls of the feeder are THICK and solid.
The drain plug at the bottom is SEAMLESS. It unscrews easily with a wing nut design. I simply put a bucket below the feeder, scrubbed the feeder, then rinsed and wiped dry in about 4 minutes! It was SO easy. We have been using these feeders almost a year, in EVERY circumstance and temperature, and they look as new as the day they were installed. They are not much more than your “conventional” feed store alternatives, and they have proven to be VERY durable against our herd!
I have a feeling these feeders will stand the test of time, no cracked, broken, warped, dingy feeders for us!
