I’ve met Janice from MyMareCo a couple of times now (she lives just a few miles away) for coffee and I adore her.  When I saw this stunning silk scarf on her site I was super excited because artist Anna Rockwell is a friend of mine and I LOVE her work.  I have a number of her originals hanging about my house.  So a scarf with one of her drawings featured…well…I had to buy it.  I’m just so tickled with how small the horse world can be,  and yet I had not met Janice before though we know a lot of the same people.  It is always exciting to meet and get to know a person running a small business, as it takes a special kind of person to make that jump.  And when their products are excellent…it’s even more exciting.  As you may have seen recently, since I started using the MyMareCo headbands…I’ve not gone back.  I’ve now accumulated several weeks worth of these babies so I never run out.   They are a new must have for my daily riding.  So trying other products from her is an exciting proposition.

Anyways, back to the scarf.  First…forgive me for the wrinkles out of the package.  I tend to let my silk scarves either lose their wrinkles over time hanging or take them in to be pressed as I’m TERRIFIED of ruining them ironing them myself. Silk isn’t exactly easy care…so try not to get it dirty so you don’t need to get it cleaned so often.

Unlike the headbands which are a thing of great usefulness…the scarf is exactly opposite.  Not useful really…just a thing of beauty.  Silk scarves are one of those things you either get and you love…or you don’t.  Personally I’m a large scarf collector.  I have a dream that one day I’ll have a few Hermes scarves, but at this point in my life investing that kind of money in an accessory that doesn’t have much utility (unlike say a nice hand bag) isn’t going to happen.  But the wonderful thing about scarves…and even silk ones…is you can find truly beautiful and unique ones at a lot of different price points.  Even if you don’t love scarves…I’m sure someone you love does.  It’s almost a bit of a hobby collecting them for a lot of us.

This particular scarf is a silk chiffon measured at 35″ x 35″ with a hand rolled hem (that’s quite nicely done).  Chiffon if you don’t know, is an extremely lightweight and sheer type of silk weave that is that “billow in the breeze” type material rather than a heavier silk weave so it’s very delicate and airy.  It’s not my favorite weave as it’s not the smoothest, but it’s a popular one.  It’s not really the right silk weave for fall, but you know…spring will be here in a moment.  It’s the perfect spring and summer scarf…however it’s also an EXCELLENT holiday gift for a horse loving scarf collector (which is why I’m reviewing it now).

What I really love about this particular design is that it’s a neutral palette: white (really kinda a pale cream, not pure white) shades of gray and some hints of blue.  It’s neutral color scheme (unlike many silk scarf designs) make it more workable with a variety of outfits and uses.  Because of the large feature, it’s also easy to style the scarf to feature the horse obviously…or to make it more abstract or even modern/clean with just a few hints of gray or blue.

The size is a good one for a silk scarf.  Not too small (with limited tie types) and not too big to overwhelm a smaller frame the 35″x35″ size is a classic one with lots of options for tying around your hair, neck and draping as a shawl.  There are a gazillion Youtube videos showing various ties so go have fun figuring out which you like best!

The price of this scarf for a real silk scarf is a bargain…not to mention that it’s really more of a unique piece of art when you compare it to other scarves in that price range.  If you’re thinking about buying it after seeing this, don’t hesitate.  It’s lovely (and MyMareCo doesn’t have many left in stock).  The quality is very good with perfect printing and well done hand rolled edges.

I’m super happy with my purchase of the MyMareCo Silk Scarf and it will be an item in my closet I will treasure likely until my last day on this planet.  That’s what is so nice about silk scarves.  They’re not new.  They’re not a trend.  They’re not fast fashion.  They are classic and timeless and can be used to change up a look in your closet with ease for decades to come.  It’s an excellent gift for yourself or someone you love.
