This review is a bit special…because this is a brand new brand of horse cookies…straight from my barn!  I’m excited to introduce you to Caballo Cookies!  One of our junior riders (and pony club girl) has started her own cookie company!  Talk about being a little entrepreneur!  I was honored to have Jax be gifted a sample bag to test out and he loved them so much, a review is in order!

Caballo Cookies Review

Jax loves cookies.  I mean…what horse doesn’t.  But he was EXTRA into these.  I used to buy fancy treats for Spicey…because he loved them…and he was sweet.  Jax is a little mouthy, so I try not to hand feed many treats (though he’s gentle when he takes them…just not maybe later).   Anyways…I usually buy Jax crappy cheap “trick” cookies because he gets them for carrot stretches…but not anything else.  And fancy cookies are a bit expensive to use multiple for stretching…however Jax made it clear on first sniff these were top notch…and was much more ready to do ANYTHING I wanted him to do to get one.

They are actually a great size for stretch treating because they’re not super large.  They’re on the softer side, but not so soft they will fall apart or I’m worried about mold.  They cost $8 per 8 oz bag which contains around 22 cookies.  That’s not an excellent value, but it’s also not a bad value.  There are treats cheaper…and treats more expensive.  The cheaper ones of course are mass produced rock hard things, so I’ll trade off being a little pricier for a nicer texture and taste cookie for Jax.  The ingredients are good and quality is good, but they’re not necessarily as fancy as some cookies on the market trying to hit on the “superfoods” thing…and I’m okay with that.  I’m not completely sold on that bandwagon.

The smell really nice, so I took a little nibble and they are pretty darned good for a horse cookie!  I won’t do that with the ones I usually feed Jax…they’d break my teeth.  I mean…the Caballo Cookies are made with stuff we can for sure eat…so no harm right?  Ingredients are whole wheat flour, rolled oats, apples, molasses, salt, brown sugar, vegetable oil, and water.   The full size bag is also resealable, which is great!

Caballo Cookies Review

I think they’re great treats (and Jax thinks they are the best treats) and it’s great to support a young lady in her first adventures into the world of business, so I’m going to buy some more bags for Jax.  If you’re interested in giving them a try for your horse, you can order here and follow her on her Instagram!
