Goode Rider Spring 2015 Review
I was recently contacted by Goode Rider to do a review of some items in their Spring 2015 collection. I was thrilled! I had seen a few Goode Rider things in stores, but had never purchased anything from the company before. My initial reactions were that the clothing was very high quality (impressed) and the style details made them stand apart from the crowd.
Iconic Breech Full Seat in Smoke ($189.00) – I jumped for joy (literally) when I pulled these out of the box. I saw these in the catalogue and lusted after them! These are high quality breeches and are well constructed. They are attractive and delicate in appearance, but are built for heavy use. The bit detail on the front is stunning as is the contrast stitching. I love the silicon grips in the back pockets to create the spur design. It’s a useful detail to a phone in your pockets and it adds another cute detail. The fabric is very comfortable and resists and stains. The sock style cuffs are great and fit slim under boots/chaps with no issues. The hardware is heavy duty. These breeches are a bit bigger in the hips and waist than I expected but tight in the thigh. On my body type, the breeches ride down when walking (belt required!), however they’re great when riding. I have to admit this is the first pair of breeches that gave me more than ample room for our Kardashian sized bottom (awesome). They hold up well to normal barn activities (riding, bathing, feeding, running around after children, etc.) and I did not get hot wearing them even in 80+ degree weather. They wash well and still look new.
Update 2017: These are still in great shape. They’re still sturdy and look almost brand new.
Favorite Shirt in Grey Stripes ($79.00) – This top has lovely details and has quality patterning and construction. I tried the shirt and I was immediately in love. I know why this is called the “Favorite Shirt.”. The fabric is light, sheer and very comfortable. I love how light it is because it’s perfect for warm days. The thicker white knit fabric on the sides keeps the shirt fitted and slim and gives an overall structure to the light material. This shirt is very comfortable to ride in or just run errands. It holds up well to washing (the striped fabric does wrinkle). It fits great and there are plenty of compliments. I do find the length of the sleeves a little odd for riding (sit right on the elbow) and wish I could roll down the sleeves (it’s a mock long sleeve) for both fit and the fact that I tend to run cold (but I also have long arms). It’s a cute everyday shirt and it will get a lot of use. It looks super cute with jeans.
Update 2017: This has become my go-to pre-show shirt. I wear it over my white show shirt to protect it from dirt. It’s perfect because it’s a button up, it’s light (doesn’t make me hot), it’s pretty and it is slimming. I still love it.
My overall impression of Goode Rider is that they produce high quality clothing of high style and comfortable fit. The shirt and breeches recieved tons of compliments from kids, adults, English and Western riders, and even some non-horsey folks. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase other items from this company in the future.
