Mine is a house that does not shy away from hot beverages of any kind.  I am primarily a tea person because quite frankly tea is easy and quick to make. However, I don’t discriminate. I love coffee, tea, mulled wine, Hot Toddy’s, Irish Coffee, hot chocolate, etc. If it is hot and delicious…I want it! Add in the fact that I’m an equestrian of a certain age with a young child and lots of things on my plate… seeing me with a cup of some sort of caffeinated beverage is pretty standard. So when Bones Coffee Company reached out to me to ask if I’d be interested in trying some of their coffee to review, I absolutely said yes. I’m not one to say no to a warm beverage. Ha!

I admit our house is a little bit of a coffee snob house… because my husband is a coffee snob. He’s a tea snob too. And a wine snob and yeah he has good/expensive taste. Me?  I am equal opportunity.  Lol.  The primary method of coffee making in my house is single origin small batch beans fresh ground and a coffee house style pour over (yup…we’re that level of hipster in our house). We also have a stupid expensive espresso machine for when we are feeling extra fancy. On great occasion I will go to Peets.  Starbucks is a banned word.  We do have a small Keurig we bought for when we have guests over with more normal “tastes” and patience levels or when decide I need an emergency coffee quickly.

Choices for the Keurig are pretty limited. I’ve tried a lot of them and I don’t like a lot of them. The best ones are from Peets or I like a few of the flavored Target brand ones…sometimes. Though they do smell so artificial that my husband is like, “What is that nasty stuff you are drinking? Please make it go away.”

So that should set the stage for this review. While we love hot beverages, we are snobs. We don’t just drink any old swill in this house.  This review could have gone horribly wrong to be honest. HA!

When my package from Bones arrived, I was immediately punched in the face by a smorgasbord of smells because there was quite a number of flavors in the box (7 if you’re keeping count). I knew I could go wild and crazy and just start drinking coffee willy-nilly and get myself super hyped up on caffeine by making lots of flavors a day, but I decided to limit myself to one flavor a day so that I could really get a good sense of each one and decide which one I liked best.

I had received some K-Cup versions and some whole bean versions of the coffee (you can order K cup, ground or whole bean of most of the flavors) and of course naturally being lazy I decided to go for the K-Cups first. No complaints there. I’m going to do a little breakdown review of all of the flavors that I have tried and what I think (and my husbands thoughts as well).

10/10 – Blueberry Blast Cake – Medium Roast – It’s delightful. I really feel like I am somehow eating a blueberry pancake without the sweetness.  I imagine with sugar this one would be stupid. My husband did not try this one yet so no comment from him on this.  I bought a second box already.  REALLY like this one.

5/10 – Apple Cider Donut – Medium Roast –  Something about this one isn’t working super right for me. I don’t get any apple. I get a little bread note. I get a little cinnamon. I don’t hate it, it just not my favorite.  Might be better in a light roast maybe?  The flavor/scent is just not there compared to the others.  Even with sugar and cream the scent isn’t really strengthened…which I thought might help. My husband hasn’t tried this one so no comment from him.

9/10 – Highland Grog – Medium Roast – nice toasty butterscotch flavor. Not over the top. Honestly just tastes like an excellent coffee. My husband said there was something weird about this one to him but I love this one (so I’m overriding him).  It was one of my favorites.  Will buy again.

8/10 – Holy Cannoli – Medium Roast – I for sure get the cannoli filling in the scent but not so much the pastry.  Smells lovely.  Tastes nice and creamy.  My husband really liked this one.  I thought it was good, but I liked some others more.

7/10 – Army of Dark Chocolate – Dark Roast – nice chocolate flavor but not my favorite of the bunch as it is just a little boring. Husband loves this one though, which is funny because he usually hates dark roast. If you like chocolate, go for it.  If you are looking for something more interesting in your coffee…try one of the others.

9/10 – Smorey Time – Medium Roast – Yum!  Maybe my 2nd or 3rd favorite. Exactly what you think it is going to be like.  I’m not sure what my husband thought of this one. He didn’t say anything either way so I’m not sure if that’s good or bad but I loved it.  If you like s’mores…try this one for sure.  I ordered another box.

9/10 – Salty Siren – Medium Roast – This is my husband’s favorite. Very good. Smells lovely. Good with or without milk. Nice caramel scent. Smooth drinking.  Really nice one.  If you like chocolate sea-salt carmels, you’ll like it. I’ve ordered more already.

10/10 – Electric Unicorn – (I ordered this one separate to what they sent and I’m so glad I did). Oh My God I love this so much!  It smells exactly like Fruity Pebbles…like if you made oatmeal with Fruity Pebbles (because it’s hot).  How delightful.  Brings back all sorts of childhood joy.  Great with a little milk. But just delightful. It did not disappoint. Might be my favorite…down to this one or the Blueberry Blast.  My husband wasn’t thrilled with this one but he also had a childhood where he wasn’t allowed to ever eat things like Fruity Pebbles (and has never had them) so he has no reference…so he doesn’t get an opinion on this one.

After my first cup of Bones Coffee (the Blueberry Blast) I liked it so much that I ordered more… Including the Electric Unicorn which of course I had to have because:
1. unicorn
2. I’m a child deep inside my heart. And that one made me smile and was delightful.

The price is of course higher as it’s a high quality specialty coffee…but honestly I’m fine with the price for what it is.  Especially if you take advantage of the sales or the subscription discount.

And now that I’m done with this review, I have ordered several more flavors and spare boxes this morning because…well…Bones Coffee is going to be a new staple in my house. Ha!  If you enjoy a good cup of coffee and get a little bored with the same old stuff every day, I highly recommend you give them a try.

There is currently a BOGO 50% off the site for the holiday…which is great (and I have taken advantage of).

Also, if stuff isn’t on sale anymore and you want to save $10 off your order, you can follow this link: $10 off.  It may work on sale stuff too.  Worth a try.
