I first reviewed Boot Crowns three years ago (you can read that one here…or just read this new one!). I had just had a baby and now that girl is 3 and in preschool! Back then I didn’t have the money to go drop a bunch of money on fancy boots. Since then I saved up a chunk of money to buy fancy customs…but ended up buying the exact same black off the rack Petries I had bought before…because sometimes I’m too practical for my own good. That’s where Boot Crowns come in. And even better, more designs have been coming out recently as the company moved to Florida. They have a different manufacturer that can do more options (and even custom ones for just a little more than retail!). I still think they’re genius and I think everyone should have a pair (or two…or three).
So before I get into the bulk of the review…I need to talk about the fact that they added custom options! You can provide the outer leather material you want used, they can order specialized leather for you, they can add rhinestones, change rhinestone colors, or add school and team logos. They can do a custom order for little or no additional costs with a pretty quick turn around time! That’s awesome. So customize your Boot Crowns instead of buying custom boots! Still a deal but will ensure you have something no one else does!
I love how these can quickly add an extra bit of style and flash to a boring outfit for a lesson or clinic. Or add a little something eye catching to your show outfits without breaking the bank. Boot Crowns is has become one of my favorite ways to get a little bit of glamour to my every day riding look AND kick up my show look a notch too. I’ve worn them with my rather floppy dress boots and my stiff dressage boots and they work well with both styles. I actually like the extra snugness they add to the top and they hide the snaps I never do up on my dressage boots because…the new ones snaps are just too hard for my fingers to manage. They also hide if I can’t zip my boots up all the way because I’ve gained a couple pounds! Ha! Bonus use. They dress up both styles beautifully and I’ve shown in them multiple times.
Don’t worry about security. They don’t move around when you ride. After maybe the first 2 minutes of warm up…I forget they’re even there. If you have brand new custom boots that fit you like a glove and come right up to he back of your knee… the extra rise these add might irritate you. However I’d imagine if you’re buying the Boot Crowns…you probably have something off the rack or something plain for practicality and you probably have enough drop behind the knee this won’t be a problem. It doesn’t add a ton of height, an inch at maximum.
They are very thin and not bulky at all between the leg and the saddle because of the thinner leather there. So they don’t mess with your position or your feel at all. They are super easy to put on and take off.
I had some mild irritation with the clip poking into me a bit (and my trainer mentioned this to me to as a reason she doesn’t wear hers), so I took a pair of pliers and flatted the angle out a bit and now they’re perfect. Now I can’t feel them at all (and I suggest you flatten the angle a bit as well if they bother you. It took less than 2 minutes and you can adjust as much as you need). It didn’t make them any less secure or harder to put on. I give a mild hit for comfort because I had to adjust them myself, but once adjusted…they’re plenty comfortable.
I’ve had no issues with durability or quality and I’ve had two of the pair for over 3 years now. The quality of leather and sewing is good and solid (and so is the Velcro) several years on. They don’t get as much abuse as a boot does, so I can imagine one pair could easily hold up to regular use for years and years with no major issues other than maybe needing new Velcro at some point. They are as easy to clean as any boot and hold up really well.
They do carry a large number of styles (and growing) with various crystal color options. They also have two different sizes to accommodate most adults! I love my Boot Crowns and look forward to collecting new pairs in the future!
