Big thanks to my mom (she was a professional photographer when I was a little, but now just is a hobbyist) for the photos of me wearing Rönner Designs!
Rönner Designs is an equestrian apparel company and they happen to be one of my favorite brands on the planet. Anytime I feel the need to update my closet I hop over to Rönner. I seriously can’t remember the last time I bought any clothes (not for riding or the gym) that wasn’t from them… Their equestrian inspired designs are unique and beautiful, their prints are detailed and well done, and the quality is excellent. Rönner gets me more compliments from a broader range of people than anything I’ve ever worn. I’ve had SO many comments…at restaurants, grocery shopping, on vacation, getting gas, at JoAnne’s Fabrics (ha!), at the barn…seriously…Rönner catches everyone’s eye. Even my non-horsey mom wanted this jacket when she saw it! While they have beautiful equestrian fashion, they also have a great line of equestrian sportswear in their beautiful prints, including women’s quarter zip riding shirts, polo shirts, riding vests and riding jackets too!
I’m thrilled to be partnering with Rönner again on another product review from their “ride-leisure” line – the Blakely Cropped Jacket. This jacket is a beautiful layering piece for days you need a little more warmth. Even better..it goes street-to-stable with ease! The perfect barn jacket for the style-minded.
Style. As always with Rönner…style is top level for me. The print is very detailed and beautifully printed. From afar it looks a little abstract, but on inspection it’s obviously bits so I can feel appropriately horse girl no matter where I’m wearing it. With the blue color on the bit, it gives a little nod (if intentional or not, I don’t know) to the currently popular Fager bits. The cropped style is very sporty and very now and goes with a lot of looks. I’ve worn it to the barn. I’ve worn it out and about. I’ve actually worn it out in “real life” more than to the barn at this point. It hasn’t really been cold enough for a jacket for me when I’m riding. If it’s over 50 degrees…I probably will only be wearing a vest…or maybe just a long sleeve shirt. I love my chilly weather! Anyways…for style it’s a 10 for me!
Fit. The fit is beautiful. I was worried about this again with my big arms, but no problem. The jacket has plenty of move and stretch so nothing is tight. It fits well. Neat, clean, and casual. Not too fancy. Not too unstructured as to feel sloppy. I also think sizing is spot on on this jacket. A big pet peeve of mine is sleeve length on jackets, and these aren’t too short and they aren’t too long. I don’t feel the need to roll them up, but they also don’t feel so short that I feel like my wrists are cold.
Comfort and Performance. This is where this jacket shines. What? Really? It performs better than how cute it is? In my opinion yes. The fabric is both lightweight, and enough to add a layer of warmth on chilly fall days (or California/Florida winter days)…and for spring as well. The body of the jacket is lined to add extra warmth where I want it, and the sleeves are unlined, so it performs much like a vest in terms of adding warmth but not getting you too hot when riding or being active. The material is also nice and breathable/wicking so that you don’t find yourself overly sweating if it’s a little too warm for the jacket (like on the day of my photo shoot where it was actually well over 80 degrees…ha!) or your having a good riding/gym session. It also has 30+ UPF, which is a nice bonus! Going back to the fabric…this jacket is cozy. I’m perfectly happy wearing this around the house when I’m chilled because it’s so comfortable and the fabric is so soft and non-restrictive. It’s an excellent jacket design made with great fabric.
Ease of Care. Washer wash and dryer dry. Doesn’t get much easier than that. And with the color-tech fabric printing…the print/color stays crisp and full color even after washing. No fading here yet! It doesn’t wrinkle. It doesn’t stretch out.
Quality. Quality of fabric and sewing and zippers as always for Rönner is top notch. I did have a little quality control issue this time, but it was quickly remedied. The reflective logo on the arm of the jacket didn’t seem to have been adhered correctly to the fabric and was already peeling, but as soon as I emailed them, they had another jacket coming my way. I returned the one with the issue so they could investigate the problem. I will say in well over a dozen Rönner pieces…this is the only one that I’ve had anything go wrong. My replacement jacket has been perfectly fine with no repeat of the problem.
Value. I think the price for this jacket and what you’re getting is completely reasonable. It’s not much more expensive than their shirts, but it’s for outerwear which typically can get more use for longer. Many other comparable brands charge even more for jackets…and this one is priced in line with brands of lower quality (at least IMO)…so while for the polo shirts I think the price is a bit high, for a quality jacket…I think the value on the jacket is good.
As always, I can’t help but recommend Rönner Designs the next time you go shopping for yourself, your mother, your trainer, your daughter, your friends, whoever! You will always be in style wearing their clothes and have a healthy nod to your equestrian roots. If you buy anyone Rönner this year for the holidays, I can guarantee you it will be a gift they remember and treasure for years to come!
