Big thanks to my mom (she was a professional photographer when I was a little, but now just is a hobbyist) for the photos with me in them!
Rönner Designs is an equestrian apparel company and is one of my favorite brands on the planet and I haven’t really bought any non-riding clothes (minus jeans) from anyone else but Rönner for quite some time (seriously, not exaggerating). Their equestrian inspired designs are gorgeous and unique, their prints are stunning (and horsey), and the quality is so so good. This brand gets me more compliments from a broader range of people than any other in my life. I’ve had SO many comments…at restaurants, grocery shopping, on vacation, getting gas, at the barn…seriously…Rönner catches everyone’s eye. I’m thrilled to be partnering with Rönner again on another product review from their newest line – the Field Polo Shirt in Bloom Nocturne. This is part of their equestrian riding shirts line up and another variation on their equestrian polo shirt. They have some beautiful equestrian fashion clothing (which I love!), but they also have a great line of equestrian sportswear in their beautiful prints, including women’s quarter zip riding shirts, polo shirts, riding vests and jackets too!
I was so excited to try a product from their sport ware line within the brand as I’d almost exclusively been purchasing the lifestyle/dressy type tops from them. I’d been eyeing this riding polo shirt design for a long time, but in different prints but never pulled the trigger as the prints used in other versions were too light/white for me for a working barn shirt and I am always disappointed in how quick typical polo shirt fabric fades. This print though…perfection. Pretty. Subtly horsey. A color that would hold up to being at the barn over the long term I thought!
Style. I was so happy to see the shirt in person when it arrived as things always look a little different in photos than online. There’s always some expectation…and this shirt exceeded mine. It was so pretty I can’t even tell you. I think every single person that saw me that day complimented me on it, barn person or running errands. Even my very non-horsey mom was impressed and wanted me to show here where she can shop Rönner! Style is, as always with Rönner…top notch. I’ll tell you a secret…I’ve already ordered a second one of these polo shirts in a different print since receiving this one. Just too pretty!
Fit. I was a little concerned about the weight of the fabric, fit and sleeve fit for me as I’m kinda…funny shaped. I have quite big arms and a not so big chest/waist. I have had issues in the past with not only Rönner fitting me, but most other brands when the sleeves are slimmer on the upper arms. I regularly need to size up to get something to fit my arms where it’s baggy on my torso. I took a risk and ordered what I thought should be my actual size, and when the package arrived I was pleasantly surprised that there was no issue. The fit was perfect.
The fabric was a really nice sturdy weight which holds shape well and flatters the figure, but it wasn’t hot on a really warm day. It’s got a comfortable stretch in it to not be constricting and the sleeves fit my arms. Yay! It was maybe a hair too short in the back on my height to tuck in and have it stay, but that is a pretty normal problem for me. Fit was spot on beautiful.
Quality. Quality with Rönner has never been a complaint from me. The details are lovely. The sewing is well done without a stitch out of place. The print on the fabric is perfect. The fit and look while wearing is great. Each item comes in a beautiful reusable bag.
Performance. Okay so it’s beautiful and fits well, but how was it as sportswear? As someone that almost exclusively wears slinky sun shirts for riding…did wearing this heavier structured fabric bother me? Not a bit…even in the heat of the day. It’s summer of course and here in CA we are literally burning up with no rain in what…maybe 6 months? Not a problem. The shirt didn’t cause me to sweat any more than what I normally wear and actually felt a bit cooler (which is wild…but I do usually wear long sleeves, so maybe it’s that). The fabrics used in their sportswear are made to be moisture wicking and comfortable and I didn’t notice the shirt when I was riding, which is the biggest test of all. If I notice the item of clothing when I’m riding and it’s pulling me out of the zone (like some breeches I’ve tried), that’s not good. Not noticing it is exactly what I am looking for. The fabrics also come with a UPF rating of 50+ for sun protection (which is very important to me). So not only are these shirts beautiful, they perform like the best sportswear out there.
Ease of Care. Not everything beautiful is easy care…in fact most beautiful things are NOT. That’s not the case here. This shirt wore well to the barn, didn’t collect dirt or stains, washed super easy in the washer and even says you can tumble dry… (though I selected to hang to dry because…well…I do that for most of my shirts). Seriously as easy to take care of as a t-shirt if you want it to be…but so much more stylish. The fabrics also show no fading after washing like every other polo shirt I have ever bought, which is awesome! Still looks brand new after washing.
Value. The only place where Rönner gets me a bit is the price. For me usually $150 for a riding shirt is a lot. I usually top out around $90 for tops for the barn and there are plenty of high end brands in that category. It’s not that the value is bad, per say…just personally a little higher than I want to spend on something I’m going to wear HARD. Their pricing for their dressier shirts is more on par with what I would expect as those don’t get such aggressive wear and will last much longer.
The price per the quality of what you’re getting isn’t out of line, it’s just a personal budget thing. I do think if they were closer to the $125 mark, I’d be more inclined to pick up several. As it is, I do keep an eye out for these type shirts going on sale and Rönner often has a good amount of beautiful products on sale at any given time. Shipping for the brand isn’t cheap however as it’s coming from Colombia, so it’s better to not just order one thing as the shipping cost is the same no matter what you order.
As I’m sure you can tell by now…I love Rönner Design and will continue shopping with them going forward. In fact, since my first review with them I’ve made 8 more orders (and counting) since and added dozens of their products to my wardrobe (blouses, quarter zips, jackets, sweaters, hair accessories, face masks…etc). A large chunk of my closet is currently Rönner and I expect that will continue going forward! The quality, design, style and fit is top notch and many of the items feel like one of a kind pieces because of the quality, uniqueness and the fact that not many people have caught on yet! A piece or two from Rönner will absolutely elevate your closet and are a solid investment in your style and their sportswear pieces are just as nice as their fashion pieces!
