I have had a few requests for reviewing video learning subscriptions over the years, and had never gotten around to reviewing any (despite being a member of a couple of popular ones for a couple of years).  Recently, I was contacted by a company called wehorse to see if I was interested in trying out their site and reviewing it, and of course (as a nerd that likes to dressage from the comfort of my couch as well as from the back of a horse) I said yes!  Note:  This is an updated review.  I previously reviewed it in Feb 2020, and was asked to have a look again once they redid their website.

The team at wehorse did it!  The website is now super easy to navigate and work with.  They fixed the things about their website that didn’t quite work for me on first try!  There is now an option to favorite videos for your account so you can more easily re-find videos to watch.  They also fixed the login issue I was having and the website functions smoothly and easily.  They also redid their search/category features to be very clear and easy to use.  They have also added a bunch of videos since February, so the value is growing (and they are adding new content every week)!

They have videos categorized by type of riding (ie Dressage), individual issues within those categories (ie half pass), and by trainer.  So it’s easy to find exactly what you’re looking for.  They have also organized videos into “Courses” with a series of videos addressing the same issue/course.  I like that they’re arraigned this way so I can see the whole series, instead of having to search for more.  There are currently 96 courses on the website (each with multiple videos).   There are over 200 videos and counting available for you to watch and learn from.

This site is majority dressage/flat learning, but there is some cross country, show jumping, driving, horsemanship, breeding, and rider position courses as well (and a number of other categories).  They really have an excellent set up now to grow this website quite large with quality content.  They currently have videos from 37 different trainers with a lot of heavy hitting European trainers included.  Trainers featured are Anja Beran, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Uta Graf, Bettina Hoy, Philippe Karl, Ingrid Klimke, Dr. Reiner Klimke, and lots more!  While I love watching our local US based trainers teach…getting to watch Ingrid Klimke take a lesson is invaluable… I have now watched a good dozen or so of the videos in the last couple of weeks and am absolutely ready to see more.

The video quality is great (some of the some of the videos are older…so those videos are grainy as the cameras shot them that way to begin with), the streaming is fast, and the voice overs are easy to understand (with a couple of exceptions).  Most importantly the content of the videos is excellent.  There’s content from the very basic beginnings to upper level stuff.  I would think that this would be an excellent tool for any trainer to have access to for showing students (it’s super easy to use on your phone or tablet as well).   They also have an excellent blog with a lot of information that ties into various videos on their site.  The blog is public no matter if you subscribe or not.

That being said, there are other subscription sites with more content available, so if quantity is what you want, this one is lacking just a bit.  However they are actively adding new content and the website content has grown quite a bit since my first review earlier this year.

I think the ~$17 (priced in Euro) a month for the 12 month subscription is and excellent price for the content.  I do think their month to month price of ~$29 is a little expensive for me personally.  However I do know some subscription sites that charge even more than that…that I don’t think are worth that!  So there you go!  Pricing of course is a personal thing.  See the special DE coupon below to save yourself 33% off the yearly subscription (bringing your cost down to ~$11 a month!).

All in all I really have enjoyed using wehorse since the changes and would absolutely recommend the website for anyone looking to learn from excellent trainers from Europe.  For the yearly subscription fee, I think it’s well worth it!  I am enjoying getting in some extra learning while not at the barn from some trainers I wouldn’t ever have a chance to work with otherwise! 😉

Bonus!  I have a special coupon code for you to use for wehorse!  The code is good for 33% off the yearly subscription!
