Facebook is great at revealing some pretty interesting stuff. Some of it you want to see…a lot of it you don’t. Well Facebook won this time when it introduced me to the genius Saddle Mattress! Thank you so much to Lisa for sending us both models to try.
This product came along at just the right moment. How so? Well shelter-in-place Covid-19 madness! My saddle went from regular use to much much less regular use. It was spending a LOT more time on the rack than usual and I had JUST had it reflocked. As you can see below…sitting on the rack was causing some indentation and damage to the leather and I’m certain to the flocking under. Not what you want when you just shelled out quite a few dollars to get it reflocked. Saddle Mattress to the rescue!
My trainer just got a brand new saddle from her sponsor Devoucoux after her last one was pretty well roughed up and she was looking to baby the new one! I decided the second Saddle Mattress should go to her.
The one I gave to my trainer fits her saddle rack perfectly (and fits a number of the various racks at the barn very well). I took the smaller one that I thought would fit the rack in the other tack room I’m in best. The fit on my type rack was not the best and there isn’t a great way to secure it. I tried the Vertex (the one I gave my trainer) on my rack and also found it didn’t really work. Turns out, the rack I use is the one type Saddle Mattress wasn’t designed to fit. Funny how that goes! I am meaning to switch out my rack, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet with all the extra busy and craziness going on. Either way, I’ve been using it and it is working well enough, it just isn’t completely secure to the rack and I have to be careful to not pull the Saddle Mattress off when I pull the saddle off the rack. Other than that, it works fine and it’s doing it’s job.
So far it has held up exceptionally well. They still look brand new and the quality of the materials and sewing is excellent. The foam is super dense and will hold up for ages and the covers are removable for cleaning (though mine is perfectly clean after several months hanging out in the tack room, so I can’t imagine it needing major washing on a regular basis).
And, as I had hoped, the Saddle Mattress has done it’s job! My saddle has no more dents! Whooo!!! My trainers saddle looks great (at least the panels do!) and she’s very happy with her’s as well. Job done. My saddle has a cushy bed to lay on that looks so much better than a pile of saddle pads or some foam noodles… they are a little expensive (especially to fill a tack room with), but I think for the investment cost of many saddles, it’s well worth the price!
Speaking of looks…there are some customization options available as well (so you don’t need to go with the logo branded ones). She has a few limited edition designs and you can also get a customized one with your own color choices for body and piping and embroidery. If you email her, they can do custom logos as well (doesn’t your whole barn need one?). How gorgeous would it be to walk into your tack room to see matching Saddle Mattresses with your barn logo. Ah…tack room dreams!
