Derby’s first product review is here! And…a book no less! Derby is reviewing Take A Hike! A Donkey-Donk Story by Ellen F. Feld. A book? Isn’t she only 1 year old? 1 year olds don’t read!?!
Don’t tell her that. Books are one of Derby’s favorite things (we have been reading to her since birth after all and she has more books than toys I think…). She will pull down a book for you to read her, if you find yourself humming a toon she will bring you the corresponding sound book that got it stuck in your mind, and she sits and turns the pages and looks at them all on her own. Sometimes I hear her talking to herself while she’s looking at the pages. She’s already turning out like her mom. Book-worm!
Derby was SOOOO excited when I handed her the book. She flapped it around excitedly at first in celebration of her new thing.
Then of course she sat it down in front of her to look what she had! She was not disappointed.
The story is very cute (Donkey-Donk decides to get off the couch and go for a hike…but I won’t ruin the ending for you) and the photographs are delightful. Side note: I really want to go meet Donkey-Donk now.
The font is nice and large and entirely printed on white pages which I appreciate because it makes it so much easier to read. The text pages have cute nature illustrations along the bottom to compliment the photography. The pages are nice and heavy duty (important with a youngster turning the pages), the print job is excellent and the cover and binding are well done too.
I of course have now read this book to her dozens of times already. She likes my dorky donkey sound affects to go along with the pictures. I’m probably going to have to end up giving her the other two books from the Donkey-Donk series (yup…there are more!) because they are adorable and she enjoys this one so much.
Thank you Ellen for sending Derby one of your books to review! You can buy Ellen’s horsey themed books (this is just one of many, and she has books for older kids too) from Willow Bend Publishing or from Amazon!
