It’s not every day I get a chance to review fashion. I mean…sure…I get to review some riding clothing. Various breeches and show shirts…and even some underwear. But a gorgeous non-barn fashion item from a horse inspired brand? This is absolutely a first. I am so so excited to bring you this photo heavy review of the gorgeous Duett Blouse from Rönner Design. Thank you to Carin for sending me this beautiful shirt to wear. I can’t wait until the shelter in place is released so I can go show it off to people not at the grocery store!
If you haven’t heard of Rönner Design, you’ve been missing out. This brand is heavily influenced by the equestrian world and has some of the most gorgeous print designs you’ll ever see. I had a really hard time deciding on something, their prints are all so beautiful. Honestly, I’m dying for some lightweight knit scarves (or heck…some silk ones) over here in a number of their prints. Carin, can you help a girl out? New product line idea!
I was immediately impressed right out of the shipping box. The shirt came packaged in a reusable sleeve with a beautiful print (again) and with some great suggestions for reuse. I’m absolutely keeping the bag and going to reuse it for traveling.
So back to the shirt. I pulled the shirt out to look over the print detail more closely. The floral design with a fairly subtle horse trotting through was just as pretty in person as it was in photos and I absolutely loved the peachy rust color (and so glad I picked this color)! It made my blue eyes pop big time!
The fabric was much heavier a material than I expected and shows wrinkles fairly easily (which I would have expected from a lighter cotton knit) but it’s some type of poly blend I think. Either way, I was slightly disappointed in the weight of the fabric as I was hoping this would be a great spring/summer shirt however I think it’s probably going to be too hot for really warm California days. I should have guessed this would be the case since the brand is based in the southern hemisphere and of course they’re going into fall/winter. It just didn’t occur to me ahead of time. I’m not saying the fabric isn’t nice, it’s just not what I was expecting and a little heavier than I usually wear this time of year.
The buttons are sewn on well (Thank goodness! I find is a problem with most clothing these days) so that’s a huge plus. I’m super happy I won’t have to go in and resew a button in the next few wears. The sleeve ruffle detailing is super pretty and adds just enough to a simple button down design to make it special, but doesn’t push it over the edge into too much. It feels like a very special piece of clothing.
I also loved that it was a v-neck button up instead of a higher collar or round neck, as I find the style particularly flattering on me. I thought the shirt was cut very well and sewn very well too. The quality was exactly what you’d expect for the price point. It is certainly a bit of an investment piece (some of their pieces are even more of an investment!), but will last for many years and they style will not be phasing out of style any time soon. It is a special little shirt and I’m in love with it.
I was also pleasantly surprised that the shirt fit my currently fluffy frame. I obviously haven’t lost all my weight yet from having Derby (it’s been so much harder to do that than I had imagined), and I ordered an X Large (supposed to be equivalent to a US size 12) knowing if I tried for a large, it likely wouldn’t fit. American brands tend to make us feel better about ourselves with our sizing, whereas foreign brands are a little more accurate. I was worried a little bit that the XL wouldn’t fit, but it does. And it fits well. I would say it’s completely accurate sizing (that it would fit you if you’re between a 12 and 14). Even better, unlike so many button up shirts for women…there’s no button bulge showing off your bra. Excellent tailoring/pattern making. I also love that the design of the shirt will be just as lovely when I get back to my normal fighting weight and I won’t feel like I’m swimming in fabric.
The shirt looks beautiful tucked in, un-tucked or with a half tuck. I love that the styling and the fabric gives it lots of versatility. I can wear it with jeans, but I can also wear it with a skirt or slacks to dress it up. It transfers easily from brunch with friends to dinner date…to a walk in the park…to a business meeting. It’s quite a versatile piece.
I think that the price of the shirt for its quality is spot on, especially when you throw in the extras like the pouch and the scrunchie. If this doesn’t tell you how much I loved the shirt I don’t know what will: I have already made an order from them with another button up shirt I was eyeing (and the scrunchies) and I cannot wait to get them!
I highly recommend a little retail therapy with Rönner Design right now. Not only will their designs bring a smile to your face and help you remember your life outside of your homes…they are including face masks in all orders right now made from their beautiful fabrics. I know I’m looking forward to getting one since I’ve had a hard time finding a mask around here (and I don’t sew…or have extra fabric laying around). I think it’s awesome that they have responded to this whole thing by giving a little back to their clients and helping to protect us from Covid-19.
A big thanks again to Carin for reaching out to me on Instagram and introducing me to my new favorite brand Rönner Design! I am excitedly waiting for my order to come in to add another special piece to my wardrobe.
