It’s full on summer…with no end in site in Northern California (or California in general). August brings hope for many areas of the country, but out here…we know we’ve got at least two more months of flies…and heat…and no rain (if we’re lucky and it’s not longer). Flies of course are something that we horse people are in a CONSTANT battle with. Especially those nasty biting flies. Lucky for me (and Spice), we have gotten the chance to try out some products from the new (and very local) company Mackey USA and today we’re reviewing the Mackey Bee Mine Fly Boots.
I was SO very excited to get these boots because the print is just SO DARN CUTE! I mean really, have you ever seen a fly mask or boots this cute? Cause I haven’t. The other prints are awesome too. Your horse is definitely the cutest in the barn with a Mackey outfit on.
So I’ve honestly never used fly boots before because from what I’d seen, they were always a waste. None of them held up well on neighboring horses, and they sagged and didn’t do much. It just seemed like a waste of money. The Mackey Bee Mine Fly Boots have impressed me though. They are very sturdy, but they’re still flexible and comfortable. The Velcro is VERY strong and there has been no removal of the boots by Mr. Spicy.
There has been no slouching or sliding down the legs. These babies stay where they are supposed to. They are mesh, so they don’t get hot and cause sweating. There have been no problems with wear spots and the fleece binding adding a bit of extra comfort.
The boots are doing exactly what they’re supposed to…they’re keeping the flies off Spice’s front legs so there’s way less foot stomping going on. He actually likes the texture of the mesh and seems quite happy to scratch his nose on his leg with these on. They are super easy to clean. Just hose off and leave to dry.
