As a fair skinned lady, I’m always trying to cover up and stay out of the sun. UV sleeves and sun shirts have become my daily go to. I recently had the chance to try out the Ashley Performance Shirt from Noble Outfitters for a review. Not two weeks went by before I went out and bought one. That’s how nice they are.
The Ashley Performance Shirt is a long sleeve sun shirt that aids in keeping you comfortable on hot days. The fabric is rated UPF 50+ to reduce sun damage in the long term which is so important when out riding every day. The mesh under arms is great ventilation and in the case of the mint green one I purchased, an extra special lace detail (others in the line have colorful prints on this mesh as well). I would LOVE to see that mesh lace on some other colors. It really adds a bit of polish and style. The fabric has Opti-Dry technology and is a blended synthetic which helps to keep moisture off your body and keep you cool.
Those benefits are fairly standard in many sun shirts on the market (other than the cute lace…which isn’t so standard!). What sets these apart? Each shirt (no matter the color) has a stock tie loop and many of the colors are appropriate for showing in most disciplines. The sleeve cuff is a lot more tailored and wide, so I find myself leaving them in place instead of pushing them back a bit (which negates the whole sun protection thing). I tend to do that on some of my other sun shirts. I love this feature.
The shirts are constructed with flat seams, so there’s no extra fabric and stitching causing itchy moments or pressure points. The fit is more slim than most, because of the beautiful princess seaming which is very flattering. There’s no boxy shape with extra tight fits to make up for shapelessness. There is also a stretch mesh back panel incorporated into the shirt for even more breathability. There is some reflective logo detailing for added safety if you ride on the road. I find the sizing to be accurate (but fitted). If you want something looser, go up a size or so.
The fabric seems to resist staining and I don’t get them quite as dirty as I do some of my other shirts (even the mint green one). These are wearing like iron and are very sturdy and easy to wash. The fabric feels that it will last for years, instead of maybe just one season.
They also happen to be one of the best priced on the market and I think you get a lot for your dollar (which I often feel with Noble Outfitter products).
The fabric does feel heavier than other sun shirts and in the darker color, does warm up a bit (I don’t find the issue of feeling warm in the mint green one, so maybe that’s just a color issue).
