I needed a new helmet to show in and I had been eyeing the very stylish helmets from One K for a few months knowing that my current helmet was not nice enough to be presenting myself in front of judges. I decided to purchase the One K Defender Suede because of its looks (polished and but not too blingy) and after a number of rides and a very successful show (at least in my mind) I’m thrilled to review this helmet.
First off…it’s my new lucky helmet. The first show of the year can be rough for anyone, and Spice and I have not had an easy run with shows since I started riding him last summer. Our first show was full of spooks and rears. Our second led to an elimination due to bucking. Our third we scratched because of an inconvenient bout of food poisoning. But this time…Spice and I went in and rode our tests like they were nothing to worry about. No spooks, no bucks, no rears, no vomiting. Just a nice solid test I was happy with and scores above 60%. With our track record, that’s like making the Olympic team. Clearly…it was all the helmet. Whatever works right?
But in all seriousness, it’s a VERY nice helmet. It is super comfortable with a nice soft liner that is easy to take in and out for cleaning. The multiple vents (7!) kept my head nice and cool on our first hot day of the year (it reached almost 80…which is rough in March). I am particularly enamored with the harness. I have never felt more secure in a helmet, the buckle is sturdy and the harness is padded and comfortable. It sits just in the right place. There was some top notch design done to create this helmet. This particular model comes in a long oval option…my head is quite oval shaped and when I need to put my hair up in my helmet to show, having this bit of extra room is so important. The outer material of the helmet is super easy to wipe off. A little dirt comes off with no problem and it looks like new even after a number of rides.
I’ve not had a fall in this helmet, and don’t plan on it…but I’m sure happy it’s protecting my head! It will be going with me to every show this year (assuming it stays lucky!) and I recommend the One K Defender Suede if you’re in the market for a stylish and comfortable new helmet for a good price.
