Two non-horse specific reviews in a week?!?  What’s going on?  Well it occurred to me recently that there’s a lot of things I use and take for granted as a horsewoman that isn’t specifically marketed for horses or horse people.  Why not talk about my favorite of those things too?  If I love it, maybe so will you.  One of recent favorite additions to my life to make things easy is the Ipsy bag subscription service. Cosmetics?  Really?!

Well as a lady that’s got her head so totally in horses she can’t think of too much else, I rarely think about what I buy for myself.  The same deodorant, face wash and sunscreen I’ve been using for years (we’re talking more than a decade).  Whatever cheap stuff at Walmart looks like it might suit my hair issues at any given time is what goes in my cart.  Anything more complicated than that?  Nope.  Random impulse buy cosmetics and a bunch of samples of anti aging stuff I use sporadically.  Not the best self-care program!

I saw an ad for Ipsy on Facebook and thought…maybe I should try that?  Seemed like a low effort way to find products I might actually use and want on the cheap (it’s $10 a month).

My bags values have varied from $49 on the lowest value bag to $73 on the highest.  So far it’s been $353 worth of cosmetics, hair and skin care for $60 (see that haul in the featured photo?  Yeah that’s not even all of it).  That’s killer!  Granted…not everything has been a win.  I have a bag with product that the colors didn’t work for my very hard-to-flatter coloring.  Some lucky teenager at my barn is going to be thrilled I’m sure to get them.

I have found a number of products that I love and I will be buying again (see all the pretty photos of individual products I loved).  I used up a number of the samples already as well and am well into many of the full size products sent too.  I also happen to love the little cosmetic bags for keeping control of things.  Three have found their way into my art supply organization and the other two to keep bits and pieces at the barn.

In 6 months I’ve gotten 4 eye shadows, 8 lip products, 2 mascaras, 1 blush, 1 primer, 1 nail polish, 2 make up brushes, 2 face cleaners, 1 moisturizer, 4 masks, 1 perfume, and 2 hair products.  Out of 30 products, only 5 have been a total toss for me.  That’s pretty good.

I really like this subscription service and am not planning on canceling any time soon.  I get pretty excited when I know my bag is shipping.  It’s a little present to myself every month.  There are also killer deals in their online shop if you’re a subscriber.  Not all of the products are top quality, but I’ve found some drug store products I like better than some of the more expensive brands anyways.  The only thing I would change is that they would put more skin care in it!

If you order through my link, know you’re giving me “points” so I can get extra product samples in my bag when I save up enough points.  So that’s much appreciated!
