Carol’s Daughter Hair Smoothie
This one is a bit of an odd review for Decidedly Equestrian. I have only done one other totally un-horse related product review in the year and a half I’ve been writing for Decidedly Equestrian. Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Hair Smoothie was worthy to make that very short list.
My hair is a disaster. Let’s be honest. Why? Two reason.
- I have dry, thick, wavy hair. It likes to be frizzy, rough, and un-glamorous (maybe I should use some of Champ’s products on my hair?).
- I wash my hair too much for my hair type. I wash it every day when I get home from the barn…because I’m allergic to horses…and hay…and cats (I’m a bit foolish). That means it gets washed at a minimum of 6 days a week.
I have been searching for YEARS to find a conditioning treatment I liked that actually conditioned my hair and wasn’t impossible to rinse out. I’ve tried every 3 minute miracle, 1 hour leave in hair mask, and (it seems like) everything in between. Being totally honest here, I purchased the Carol’s Daughter Hair Smoothie because it smelled like heaven. Lucky for me and my pocketbook, it wasn’t a total waste of a purchase like many of these whim purchases are.
I LOVE this product. It does smell quite lovely (which is wonderful), but that’s not the best thing about it. It actually makes my hair soft. Soft! I have never been one of those girls with hair people want to touch…my hair just never looks or feels soft (my hair was compared to a horse tail many times as a child). This product made my hair super soft and very shiny. It also was easy to wash out (YAY!!) and I didn’t need to leave it in for half an hour to make it useful. Just about 5 minutes while I was doing everything else in the shower and that was enough. I use it once or twice a week, depending on my hair’s current state.
When I put it up in a ponytail this morning to go to the barn I thought “It’s a pity I have to put this up…it is so shiny, soft and lovely this morning. I wish I had somewhere to go other than the barn.”
It’s not the cheapest conditioner out there, but for what it does for my hair…I’ll keep buying it. Riders need to spend a little money on themselves sometimes…sometimes (or maybe not). If you have issues with your hair suffering from dryness, roughness and being over-washed…this might just be a good product for you too.
