Kiss My Horse
I received a sample pack of Kiss My Horse’s Shampoo-La-La, Dream Rinse, and XOXO Shine and Detangler many months ago, but the weather just got good enough to excuse a bath again. Champ was really quite dirty (for a horse that is regularly blanketed and kept in a stall) from almost 5 months without a bath. He had quite a bit of dander build up, some worked in dirt from his rolling and his mane and tail were pretty gross. I was excited to try the Kiss My Horse products to see what they could do for him (as I love the Mrs. Conn’s sponges so much, I figured I would love these too).
The Shampoo-La-La has a very strong pina colada smell…that I was absolutely not into (makes me want to throw up a bit…). Some people probably like the smell…it’s just REALLY not for me. Thankfully the smell didn’t stick to Champ’s hair once rinsed out. I used the whole sample bottle and still needed to add additional shampoo to clean his mane/tail (granted he was very dirty and had a lot of dander). I thought the shampoo did a decent job getting him clean, but it is not my favorite shampoo ever (the smell didn’t help). I found it a bit harder to rinse out than the Mrs. Conn’s sponges shampoo is (maybe because I had to use more to get the job done). It did a decent enough job getting him clean. I prefer the Mrs. Conn’s sponges more (from the same company) and I really didn’t enjoy the smell even a little bit. Maybe if it had a different smell… (see a theme here?).
The Dream Rinse was my favorite product of the three. I diluted it in water before applying it instead of following directions (it seemed easier the way I did it than to rub it in) and it made Champ very soft and shiny. The biggest issue with this product (like the shampoo) is the scent. It is a smell that many people won’t be able to handle (best description of the smell…smells like a very rich cupcake or cake batter or something). I love sweet smells (I usually use a vanilla based perfume myself), but the smell of this is so cloyingly sweet it made me a bit nauseous to use (though I liked it better than the shampoo scent). Thankfully the smell didn’t really stick to Champ much…and what did was light. If not for the scent, I would buy this product. Because of the scent…I just cannot.
The XOXO Shine and Detangler spray had the nicest scent of the three in my opinion. It made Champ smell quite good. I used the whole bottle on his coat, mane and tail. It did an admirable job making Champ’s coat shiny, but it didn’t really do much detangling to the mane and tail. I think there are better detanglers on the market, but I’d use it as a shine spray. It also seemed to attract dirt to the mane and tail…or it left a residue that showed up the next morning (see the above photos from the next day). Both his mane and tail looked greasy, limp and dirty the next morning, and I’m not sure why. It did not do this on his coat at all. His coat was still lovely, soft and shiny the next morning.
All in all, these are fun new products that kids and teens will like (the smells and the bottle design both seem aimed at a younger audience). If you enjoy very dessert-y smells, you may like these products as well. They work well enough for me to recommend them if you like the scents (except I’m not thrilled with the spray as a detangler, but it’s great for shine).
You can buy products from this new line (a lot more future products to come) on the Kiss My Horse Website.
