The Breeders Cup is always a site to see. It’s always a good day to be at Santa Anita and watch some of the best horses in the world run, and this year was no exception.
I managed to finish in 8th place over both days of racing in the Win Star World Championship Challenge out of 1102 people, which is the second time I’ve managed to place in the top 10 in one of their contests (only this time there was no prize). I like to brag about my handicapping skills sometimes…sorry! I had Hootenanny, Luck of the Kitten, Goldencents, Tapiture, Untapable, and Ria Antonia on my card for Friday. On Saturday I had Take Charge Brandie, Feathered, Dayatthespa, Dank, Judy The Beauty, The Great War, Carpe Diem, Main Sequence, Flintshire, Anodin, Shared Belief and California Chrome.
The horses were gorgeous. The racing was good (for the most part). Goldencents was amazing! There was only one major injury. The weather was much cooler than normal which was a nice change and the looming storm clouds brought a fun atmosphere and extra beauty to the day. All in all it was a good couple of days of top class racing at a fantastic race track.
I did have a few issues that made this particular Breeders Cup less awesome than the rest I have been to. My good camera broke and I lost all photos of the Juv. Turf. I had to switch to my phone for the rest of the day, which is why my photos suck. Before the races started on Saturday, my phone broke…so needless to say, I have absolutely no photos from Saturday. That makes me super sad. That topped with an angry crowd after an unpopular decision in the Breeders Cup Classic has left something to be desired. They also seemed to be under-stocked on merchandise this year and I had problems finding the stuff I had wanted to buy.
It’s the last Breeders Cup at Santa Anita until 2017. Can’t wait for the next one. I’ll make sure my camera is in working order by then, or buy a new one (I ended up getting a new one…)!
